Vascular Lesions

Vascular Lesions

What are they?

Broken capillaries or teleangiectasis, spider naevi, cherry angiomas, facial and leg veins, venous lakes, rosacea symptoms, background and generalised redness are amongst vascular lesions treatable with laser and IPL treatments.

Blood vessels lying just below the skin surface are usually not visible to the naked eye, but due to effect of ultraviolet radiation, skin irritation, some medications and other factors they can become enlarged and visible.

Vascular Lesions

vascular laser

Our medical grade vascular laser allows us to target unwanted imperfections such as blood vessels around the nose, face and on the chest. When treating capillaries with vascular laser, the laser breaks down the walls of the vessels, causing them to collapse, leaving surrounding tissue unharmed. These capillaries are then reabsorbed by the body. This is safe and effective treatment.
Vascular laser treatments feel a bit like a hot pinprick, some discomfort is possible, but it should not be painful experience for you. Application of topical anaesthetic is not required prior and you can go back to your usual activities after the treatment.

Some localised erythema and mild swelling can be visible in a first day after the treatment, bruising or blistering is rare. You should be able to see results within a few weeks and continue seeing improvement for several months. The number of treatments required depends on what lesion is being treated. Some conditions may require 2 or 3 treatments 4 weeks apart, some may need 4-6 treatments to achieve the best outcome. Your condition will be reviewed prior to any further treatment, to evaluate need for repeated session.

In general, treated blood vessels should not reappear, but new ones may form.

Superficial and deeper vascular lesions can be effectively treated on clients with all skin types.

laser genesis

Cutera’s signature treatment “Laser Genesis” can also be beneficial and very effective in treating background redness, flushing as well as excess sebum production that is present in Rosacea sufferers.

This revolutionary, safe, non-invasive treatment also offers skin rejuvenation and effective treatment of Rosacea, redness and capillaries, acne, acne scarring as well as large pores, uneven skin texture, fine lines and skin laxity. Usually multiple laser treatments are required, with some improvement seen after each session. Often the results last for many months or years. Annual maintenance may be all that is required.

IPL - INTENSE PULSED LIGHT

The IPL emits light waves that pass through the haemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying pigment and predominant protein in the red blood cells). This causes damage to the vessel wall, which body then absorbs. In addition to the above Cutera LimeLight IPL treatment offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with ageing and photo-damage. This treatment is ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolletage as well as back of your hands and upper limbs with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins) or brown spots.

Our IPL treatments can achieve very good results with little discomfort and downtime. Prior to treatment we apply gel to protect and cool down superficial layer of the skin. During treatment clients may feel mild stinging sensation like the snapping of a rubber band, or mild pinching. After the treatment, we will remove any residual gel and apply medical grade topical preparations to further help with your skin condition. Mineral make up can be applied immediately after the treatment if required.

Procedure is recommended for clients with lighter skin tone.

Lasers produce high-intensity light that can be used to selectively heat blood vessels. A variety of different devices can be used, although the effectiveness and side effects for an individual can vary. The advantage of lasers is the ability to target the blood vessel while leaving the surrounding tissue undamaged. As a result, the risk of scarring is extremely low. Vascular lasers can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Broken capillaries or telangiectases
  • Redness of the face and neck
  • Rosacea
  • Spider naevi
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Venous lakes
  • Some leg veins
  • Early scars
  • Red stretch marks.
